There’s the books, the bar, and then there’re the bands. And book readings, signings, film screenings and whatever else we can pull off in this space. The acoustics are great, the room’s warm and intimate, and we are currently booking national acts.
So far we’ve had Session Americana, Boston favorites The Swinging Steaks, innovative cellist Rushad Eggleston, Damon and Naomi (of Galaxie 500), Jimmy Ryan (of the Blood Oranges), Soprano Julie Braun Haines with an evening of cabaret music featuring songs by Weill, Satie and Gershwin. We’ve also showcased “Sisters of the Moon,” featuring members of Della Mae, The Murphy Beds from Brooklyn with Irish folk music and Anna and Elizabeth – ballads, fiddle tunes, great harmonies and storytelling. We try to offer a little something for everyone.
Upcoming summer acts will feature Austin Americana musician Billy Eli in June, and Ken Stringfellow of The Posies, R.E.M. and Big Star in July.
We plan to showcase everything from string quartets to alt country, folk and indie rock. Next fall we’ll begin screening classic & cult films. And we’re open to suggestions: we had had a birthday celebration and Sonnet-a-thon for Shakespeare; a film’s been shot here; and a local playwright will be discussing her upcoming production.
Please check our site as the acts and dates firm up. And sign up for our email list so we can keep you posted. Visit our Facebook page for past events.
